Tim Holtz Christmas Colorize Dies Series Post 5 | Mixed Media Christmas Cards Featuring Harvey and Glitter Texture Paste.

Featured Card

Mixed media Christmas card featuring Harvey made with the Tim Holtz Colorize Harvey dies by Sizzix, standing on tartan patterned paper with glitter texture paste stencilled using Mini Layering Stencil Set 54 by Stampers Anonymous. Berries and twigs cut with the Festive Gatherings dies are tucked under his arm, with a layered bow from The Greetery Fit to Be Tied die set in the top corner, machine stitching, gold cardstock, and die-cut pieces coloured with Distress inks.
Harvey takes centre stage on tartan patterned paper in this mixed media Christmas card, with glitter texture paste adding sparkle and Festive Gatherings foliage tucked under his arm. A layered bow from The Greetery’s Fit to Be Tied dies, machine stitching, and warm gold cardstock bring the whole design together

Behind the Feature Card and More

For this card, Harvey is standing on tartan patterned paper, which instantly adds a cosy, traditional Christmas feel. To introduce some texture and sparkle, I used glitter texture paste through the Tim Holtz Mini Layering Stencil Set 54, creating a subtle but eye-catching background detail.

I tucked berries and twigs from the Tim Holtz Festive Gatherings die set under Harvey’s arm to give him a festive flourish, then added a bow in the top right-hand corner using Fit to Be Tied dies by The Greetery. A little machine stitching adds extra interest and helps frame the design.

To finish it all off, I layered the card with gold cardstock by Spellbinders, which brings warmth and a touch of elegance to the overall look.

Mixed media Christmas card featuring Harvey made with the Tim Holtz Colorize Harvey die by Sizzix, resting on layered red and gold striped paper. The design includes a layered candy cane, a light dusting of snow, Festive Gatherings foliage, and a gold cardstock base.

For the second card, Harvey is resting on Tim Holtz’s layered stripes, and I love how the red and gold work together to create a rich, festive base. A layered candy cane appears again, along with a light dusting of snow and a beautifully detailed branch from the Festive Gatherings die set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix.

Once again, standing Harvey on a sentiment helped to ground the design and bring all the elements together.

I still have many more Harvey cards to show you, but sadly I became a little over-zealous when adding the snow and wasn’t happy with the results. With time pressure looming to get my cards posted, and after making 36 Harveys, I’ll admit I was feeling a bit over Harvey at that point.

Those cards have now been carefully tucked away in my cupboard, ready to be resurrected… hopefully sooner rather than later.

Foiling with Etched Dies | Pink and Blue Christmas Cards made using using 'Christmas Joy' and 'Christmas Blooms', Dies by Spellbinders

 from a Featured Card

Pink and blue handmade Christmas cards created using Spellbinders Shapeabilities “Christmas Joy” and “Christmas Blooms” dies, featuring foiled etched die backgrounds and smooth ink-blended gradients from dark to light.
Pink and blue handmade Christmas cards created with Spellbinders Shapeabilities “Christmas Joy” and “Christmas Blooms” dies. Pink and blue florals from the Christmas Blooms die are layered onto matted pink, white, and blue cardstock, resting on gold foiling created with the Spellbinders Stitched Joy Die against a flat blue background.

Behind the Featured Card and More

After loving the blue versions of these cards—which I shared in a previous post—I decided to try one in pink, and I loved it just as much. This time, however, I used the Spellbinders Stitched Joy Die to create the background. I purchased this die quite some time ago by accident and never used it, as hand stitching isn’t something I usually include in my cards.

It had been sitting in my “to sell” pile until I pulled it out again to experiment with foiling. I think it worked surprisingly well—perhaps not quite as striking as the “Christmas Joy” die—but I was glad I gave it a whirl. I may even die-cut it properly and create at least one stitched card before deciding whether to sell it

Behind Featured Cards and More

When I first saw Yana Smakula’s Christmas Joy card, it was love at first sight. There were so many elements I admired, but what really stood out was the stunning foiled background she created using a standard etched die—such a clever and inspiring technique.

Yana has also created a wonderful video demonstrating how she achieved this effect, and it’s absolutely worth watching if you’re interested in trying something a little different with your dies.

My cards are, in part, inspired by Yana’s beautiful design, with my own twists and elements infused along the way. Thank you, Yana Smakula, for your incredible talent and ongoing inspiration.

Christmas card using the Tim Holtz Colorize Santa Die by Sizzix. A festive cherry-red Santa pops against plain blue cardstock, finished with gold stars, a candy cane, and blue bows.

Behind These Cards and More

I created this series of Christmas cards using the Tim Holtz Colorize Santa Die by Sizzix, and I absolutely love how the cherry-red Santa pops against the turquoise cardstock. Red and turquoise is one of my favourite Christmas colour combinations—it always feels fresh, cheerful, and a little bit fun.

Nestled on a bed of delicate snowflakes, Santa is finished with two candy canes that add just the right touch of festive charm and colour.

If you’d like to see more Santa cards made with this die, please take a look at my other adjacent posts—he’s clearly become a bit of a favourite around here! As always, all of the materials used for this card are listed at the end of the post for easy reference.

Santa Greetings Series Post 3 | Handmade Christmas Cards using Tim Holtz Colorize Dies, the Fun and Sparkly Way

Featured Card

Handmade Christmas card featuring a blue Santa created with the Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix, set against festive Christmas tree patterned paper in a bright and playful holiday design.
The Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix creates such a gorgeous Santa. This time he’s dressed in blue, giving this bright and fun Christmas card a fresh twist as he stands out beautifully against festive Christmas tree patterned paper. See below for other cards in this series.

Behind the Cards and More

This set of cards were designed to be bright, friendly, and joyful, using Christmas-themed patterned papers, bows, glitter, and shiny gold cardstock. The same Santa die feels fresh and playful just by changing the colour palette and background materials.

Santa’s wide-open arms are so inviting that I couldn’t resist pairing him with the sentiment:

“Santa Loves You This Much.”

Inside the card, the message continues with:“And so do we.”

For my daughters and grandchildren, I took it one step further and personalised the sentiment to read:

“Santa Loves You This Much,
But We Love You So Much More.”

It’s such a simple message, but it was very well received making people feel very special.

If you enjoy these Tim Holtz Santa Christmas cards, you can see how versatile

e this die set really is by exploring my other Colorize Santa projects—proof that one die can produce very different looks.

Santa Greetings Series Post 1 | Hand made Christmas Cards using 'Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set' by Sizzix and Tim Holtz

Featured Cards

Handmade Christmas card featuring a Tim Holtz Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set by Sizzix, with a funky layered Santa on a mixed-media background created using Distress Spray Inks, an embossing folder, and Martha Stewart snowflake punches.
An arty Christmas card featuring a funky Santa created with the 'Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set' by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. I had fun building a layered mixed-media background using Distress Spray Inks, an embossing folder, and even dusting off my old Martha Stewart snowflake punches for wonderful chunky snowflakes,

Handmade Christmas card featuring a funky Santa created with the Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix, set on a layered mixed-media background using Distress Spray Inks and an embossing folder, with radiating embossed lines and gold snowflakes cut from the Snowflake Season Border Die by Concord & 9th.
This arty Christmas card came together around a funky Santa made with the Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. I experimented with Distress Spray Inks and an embossing folder to create a textured mixed-media background, loving how the embossed lines fan out from Santa. Shiny gold snowflakes, cut using the Snowflake Season Border Die by Concord & 9th, add a touch of festive sparkle. You’ll find more details below.

Behind the Featured Cards and More

If you love layered Christmas card making, with a slightly arty takes on classic designs, the 'Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set' by Tim Holtz from Sizzix is wonderful. I finally bought this set—years after its release—and honestly, I don’t know why I waited so long.

I love the Tim Holtz Colorize range for its depth, artiness and nice use of lines, and Santa looks great in these.

Santa is made up of 22 individual die-cut pieces, including: two shades of white, three shades of red, two shades of pink and two shades of your chosen glove colour. A lot, yes! but definitely worth it for me.

For these cards, I took a slightly arty approach to Santa. All the die-cut pieces were inked using Walnut Stain Distress Ink, my go-to colour for distressing, the backgrounds were embossed and then layered with Distress Sprays and Distress Inks. And of course Santa featured on top.

These cards are part of a series. Links to the rest of the series, along with the materials and supplies used, can be found at the end of this post.

Tim Holtz Christmas Colorize Dies Series Post 4| Mixed Media Christmas Cards Featuring Harvey in the Snow

Featured Card

Mixed media Christmas card featuring Harvey made with Tim Holtz Colorize Harvey dies by Sizzix, covered in snow and layered over a green wreath background embossed with the Traditional Wreath 3D Embossing Folder by Stampin’ Up! And Holiday Floral Swag 3D Embossing Folder, Spellbinders, with Festive Gatherings foliage and Peeled Paint Distress Spray Stain.
A festive mixed media Christmas card featuring Harvey created with the Tim Holtz Colorize Harvey dies by Sizzix, set against a snow-dusted background embossed with the Traditional Wreath 3D Embossing Folder by Stampin’ Up!. Festive Gatherings foliage and layers of Peeled Paint Distress Spray Stain add depth and seasonal texture

Behind the Featured Card and More

I wasn’t entirely sure how these cards were going to turn out. I knew I wanted to work in a mixed-media style and give Harvey a generous sprinkling of snow, but beyond that, I let the process lead the way.

I began by embossing Tim Holtz Heavy Duty Distress paper with one of my Christmas 3D embossing folders, then sprayed the panels with Distress Spray Stains in Peeled Paint and Forest Moss. At first, I really wasn’t happy with the result, so I grabbed some white Gesso and quite literally got my fingers involved, rubbing it over the surface. That was the turning point. The green remained beautifully caught in the embossed ridges while most of the colour was softened under a veil of white, giving the background far more depth and interest.

Festive Gatherings foliage and layers of Peeled Paint Distress Spray Stain add depth and seasonal texture.

Once the backgrounds were finished, I mounted my little Harveys and tucked in some Christmas foliage from the Tim Holtz Festive Foliage die set beneath their arms. Adding the snow took much longer than I expected, but once it was complete, I was really pleased with the final look. I don’t often mount card fronts onto black cardstock, but it worked perfectly here and really helped everything pop.

To finish them off, I popped bells into Harvey’s hands so he could jingle, and the middle Harvey in red gained a candy cane for a little extra festive charm. A Christmas sentiment, and they were done.

Homemade Christmas card featuring bells, bows, and a layered wreath created with the Tim Holtz Yuletide Wreath Colorize dies by Sizzix.

Bells, bows, and wreaths come together in these homemade Christmas cards using the Tim Holtz Yuletide Wreath Colorize dies by Sizzix.

Behind the Featured Card and More

Bells, bows, and wreaths feature throughout these homemade Christmas cards, created using the Tim Holtz Yuletide Wreath Colorize dies by Sizzix. Can you see in the featured card how I used little bells as the ornaments on the wreath: it made the card jingle.

For the first card, I went for the distressed look — ripping the edges and heavy inking. When my daughter asked why the card was ripped, I realised 'shabby' might not be everyone’s cup of tea, so I decided the next one would be clean and neat instead… 😂

That said, I still find myself drawn to the distressed version, as I obviously do like 'shabby'.

Tim Holtz Christmas Colorize Dies Series Post 2 | My Favourite Hand Made Christmas Card with Harvey & Yuletide Wreath Dies

Featured cards

Christmas card featuring the Tim Holtz Harvey soldier resting in a Yuletide wreath, embellished with layered bows and bells from the Fit to Be Tied, by 'The Greetery' and Yuletide Wreath die sets.
I loved using the Tim Holtz Harvey and Yuletide Wreath dies to create this fun Christmas card, with the sweet soldier nestled into the wreath and finished with bows and bells.

Doesn’t Harvey, created with the Tim Holtz Colorize die, look great in green, resting on a Yuletide Wreath by Tim Holtz and set against a striking blue background. More details on these cards and more, are shared below.

Behind the Featured Cards and More

These three little guys are my favourites of my 'Christmas Harvey Collection'. I absolutely love the Yuletide Wreath Colorize die by Tim Holtz for Sizzix — it creates a beautifully detailed and visually pleasing backdrop for Harvey on each handmade Christmas card. One detail I’m especially drawn to is the bell in the top right-hand corner of the second card. It’s layered with a gorgeous white bow from The Greetery’s Fit to Be Tied die set, adding an elegant finishing touch and a lovely sense of balance to the design.

I also really love the contrast of green Harvey against the rich royal blue cardstock. That particular shade of blue is my all-time favourite — and, frustratingly, I can’t for the life of me remember which company it came from. I have plenty of cardstock that’s almost that colour… but never quite that one. One day… maybe 😉
