An arty Christmas card featuring a funky Santa created with the 'Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set' by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. I had fun building a layered mixed-media background using Distress Spray Inks, an embossing folder, and even dusting off my old Martha Stewart snowflake punches for wonderful chunky snowflakes,

Handmade Christmas card featuring a funky Santa created with the Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix, set on a layered mixed-media background using Distress Spray Inks and an embossing folder, with radiating embossed lines and gold snowflakes cut from the Snowflake Season Border Die by Concord & 9th.
This arty Christmas card came together around a funky Santa made with the Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. I experimented with Distress Spray Inks and an embossing folder to create a textured mixed-media background, loving how the embossed lines fan out from Santa. Shiny gold snowflakes, cut using the Snowflake Season Border Die by Concord & 9th, add a touch of festive sparkle. You’ll find more details below.

Behind the Featured Cards and More

If you love layered Christmas card making, with a slightly arty takes on classic designs, the 'Santa Greetings Colorize Die Set' by Tim Holtz from Sizzix is wonderful. I finally bought this set—years after its release—and honestly, I don’t know why I waited so long.

I love the Tim Holtz Colorize range for its depth, artiness and nice use of lines, and Santa looks great in these.

Santa is made up of 22 individual die-cut pieces, including: two shades of white, three shades of red, two shades of pink and two shades of your chosen glove colour. A lot, yes! but definitely worth it for me.

For these cards, I took a slightly arty approach to Santa. All the die-cut pieces were inked using Walnut Stain Distress Ink, my go-to colour for distressing, the backgrounds were embossed and then layered with Distress Sprays and Distress Inks. And of course Santa featured on top.

These cards are part of a series. Links to the rest of the series, along with the materials and supplies used, can be found at the end of this post.
